Affiliate Marketing
Make Money with other People's Stuff

You need to know how affiliate programs work to be successful at affiliate marketing.

Affiliate programs pay you a percentage or a fixed amount for everything that is sold through you. When you sign up for an affiliate program you are given your own affiliate ID. When someone goes to a site through your ID link and makes a purchase, you make money. Sounds easy doesn't it? Well it's not that difficult but you do need to put in a bit of work and you do need to know about affiliate marketing.

Some affiliate programs give you a website to promote their goods. All you have to do is get people to see it.

If you want to be different, however, you really do need a website of your own. This allows you to be different from other affiliates and stand out from the crowd. You can register a domain name and get a company to host your site. You then need to build your site pages with links to your affiliate program. These links on your site contain a special code that is unique to you. Whenever someone clicks on your link, small files called cookies are downloaded on the computer. This contains the information required to identify that this person has actually come in from your site. Now if this person purchases something from the site that you are affiliated with, you get paid. Sometimes the cookies are kept  for up to a year so if that person comes back later and makes a purchase, you get your commission. This differs with different affiliate programs, so you need to check before joining a program.

With so many scams and frauds going around the Internet, do your research. You want to be affiliated with programs that you know sell good products, and those in which you have confidence. Good affiliate programs should be free to register with, so don't part with any cash.

Once you are affiliated with a couple of good affiliate programs, and getting traffic to them the money will start to come in - even while you are asleep.
